About the Provider

Sandra L. Hernandez, M.D. completed a Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (Urogynecology) fellowship and is dual board certified in both OB/GYN and Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Hernandez specializes in the treatment of urogynecologic conditions including, but not limited to: pelvic floor disorders such as bowel and bladder incontinence, recurrent cystitis, pelvic organ prolapse and pelvic floor dysfunction. In addition, she also treats more complex urogynecological conditions such as fistulas, diverticuli, and mesh complications.

After earning her Medical Doctorate in 1999 from the University of Texas-Houston Medical School, Dr. Hernandez completed a four-year Obstetrics-Gynecology residency at Madigan Army Medical Center in 2003. Dr. Hernandez was selected for the highly competitive Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in 2006 and became one of the first physicians to become FPMRS board certified in 2013. Upon completion of her fellowship training, she remained as a faculty physician at Walter Reed for the next 11 years. During that time, she trained over 50 OBGYN residents and 8 Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery fellows, all while serving as the Division Chief of Urogynecology and Assistant Program Director for the fellowship. After 22 years of active duty service as an educator, clinician and leader, she recently retired and is excited to be back in El Paso.

Dr. Hernandez is a native-born, bilingual El Pasoan who is honored for the privilege to provide the best urogynecologic care possible to the women of her hometown. Her sub- specialty fellowship training gives her a unique perspective in the management of numerous complex urogynecologic conditions. She is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologist and a longstanding member of the American Urogynecologic Society.
