About the Provider
Dr. Torres attended St. Edwards University on a College Assistance Migrant Program Scholarship and then in 1993, graduated as Cum Laude from St. Edward’s University. Dr. Torres made the Dean’s List at St. Edward’s University in 1989 and there he stayed until his graduating year, 1993. In 1991 he received the Rice/Baylor College of Medicine Honors Premedical Academy award. While attending St. Edward’s University, he not only worked as a resident assistant but was also a volunteer at the People’s Community Clinic and served as the Vice President of the Academy of Natural Science.
Between 1994 and 1999, Dr. Torres worked as a volunteer at the Muscular Dystrophy Association, at the local Soup Kitchen, at the Clinica La Esperanza and the Texas Association of Latin American Students. The Betty Murphy Award was presented to Dr. Torres in 1995 by The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, while working as a Physician’s assistant at the Contemporary Health Networks of Houston, P.A. In 1997, Dr. Torres received the TRIO Achiever award from the Texas Association of Student Special Services Programs in Houston Texas.
Dr. Torres returned to El Paso in 2003 to complete the internship and residency program at Texas Tech University Health Science Center, Obstetric and Gynecology Department. During his tenure he was honored with the Colposcopist of the Year Award. After completing the residency program, he worked as the Assistant Director of the Planned Parenthood Centers of El Paso.
In 2006, Dr. Torres began to volunteer as a physician at the Second Baptist Clinic. Dr. Torres is a member of The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists, the American Medical Association, the Texas Association of Obstetrics and Gynecologists and the El Paso County Medical Society. His special interest include; exercising, playing volleyball, going to the theatre, dancing, traveling, and speaking, reading and writing fluently in Spanish.
